Oriole Magic

Coercing D to help me
Having kids is such a great excuse for trying new things! For instance, I have tapped into Michael's interest in birds as a way to experiment with attracting new birds into our yard. If I didn't have kids, I'd be labelled as "that weird bird lady." Now all those people talking about me say, "she's so great at encouraging her children to learn about the world!" Sweet.

I'm from just outside Baltimore, and I would love to see a Baltimore Oriole here in our yard. To that end, I have devised two homemade oriole bird feeders based on more elaborate and attractive samples I saw online. I'm not going to give instructions yet, I want to see how they work first. The paper plate at the bottom really should be a clear plastic plate. I know this paper version is going to melt away with the first decent rain.
Orioles love oranges
M was worried we'd use all the orange marmalade.
