Try It: What do you learn from new running routines?

I've been running since I was 14 years old. Not continuously, of course. But pretty frequently. I love running outside, but this winter I decided to try running on a treadmill indoors when the weather was too unpleasant.

Today it was snowy in Pittsburgh and I decided to use my LivingSocial deal for a month's worth of visits to a local gym and hit the treadmill.

I never run on the treadmill and I have a lot to learn about the small things that are different about running on a treadmill compared to road running.

  1. I need a barrette. My bangs were in my eyes all the time because there was no wind blowing in my face.
  2. I don't feel bad when my pace peaks and dips during a road run but I felt terribly guilty adjusting the speed on the treadmill so I just kept making it faster. 
  3. I like to take dance breaks when I'm running and that's hard on the treadmill. 

I have 27 more days to sneak in a few more treadmill runs and I'll let you know what else I learn.

It's good to try new things and stretch the comfort zone. What new things are you trying in 2012?
