2014 Goals Update

Fuel for the long haul.
Way, way back in February I set some goals for myself to accomplish this year.

It's funny how much I've been able to accomplish in a relatively short period of time, but I also have quite a lot left to do in the year. I also can't believe I didn't record my book reading goal. That project has it's own page on my blog.

There are so many things that can impact the goals we set for ourselves. Lots of things are out of our control, like running injuries or illness. Some of these goals can only be accomplished in a certain time of year.

But a quick review of my progress is still important to acknowledge what I have done, give myself a little pat on the back, and push forward on tasks still to do.

Fitness

      • Swim 2 miles in 1 swim. Should be able to do this. I am up to 2400 yrds in practice swims.
      • Run a half marathon. Will probably happen in October.
      • Bike 50 miles on 1 ride. I just did 15 miles on Monday, and that was tough. Took me 75 minutes!  If I do 5 min miles, which is my average, a 50 mile ride would take me 5 hours. I now think this was biting off more than I can chew. I should've set a goal for 30 miles.

      Creative

        • Share some of my poetry at an open mic event. DONE!
        • Submit my young adult novel to agents. I completed a tween novel this year and will pitch it this weekend to agents. Could we agree that this activity would cover this goal?
        • Complete NaNoWriMo 2014 - three years in a row! Can't happen until November, but I did finish one novel already this year!

        Volunteer

          • Visit my state and federal legislators on behalf of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Finally had a phone call with my elected official. This should happen soon!
          • Be a gleaning volunteer for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
          • Continue being an active volunteer at our elementary school. I volunteered for Kids of STEEL, fundraising, library and Helping Hands this 2013-2014 year. I'll keep that up in the next school year.

          Parental & Friendship Goals

          • "Help us grow up." Suggested by my middle son. Sounds good. So far everyone is still growing.
          • Go on a 'girls' getaway' with friends. Hasn't happened yet. No plans either. :(
          • At least one Date Night* monthly with my husband. So far so good! This one's easy.
*Date night definition means we're out of the house, enjoying a kid-free activity.
