We Can End Gun Violence

I'm dedicating this post to the families of Newtown, Connecticut. It's been three years since that community experienced one of the worst mass shootings in our nation's history. I was in my son's kindergarten class that day. My child came home safe from school, but twenty other children and six adults did not.

Their names are Rachel, Dawn, Anne Marie, Lauren, Mary, Viki,  Charlotte, Daniel, Olivia, Josephine, Dylan, Madeleine, Catherine, Chase, Jesse, Ana, James, Grace, Emilie, Jack, Noah, Caroline, Jessica, Arielle, Benjamin and Allison.

There is no reason why this happened at Sandy Hook and not at my child's school. Or your child's school. And right now in Pennsylvania there is no background check required on the sale of the kind of long barreled weapon that was used in that shooting.

If you are a praying person, it's wonderful to pray for those families in Newtown and hope they can find the strength to keep going through today. But in addition to prayers, I'd ask for you to honor their lives with ACTION today, especially if you live in Pennsylvania.

Please call your state representative and ask him or her to support HB1010. CeasefirePA makes it so easy to contact your elected officials and ask for their support.

Please call your Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey and Representative Keith Rothfus. Let them know you want better background checks that keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. If you need help figuring out what to say, MomsDemandAction.org can help. Visit their Take Action page and get involved.
