2017 Goals

What's coming in 2017? Sometimes it feels like a disaster.

There's a lot going wrong in the world. But this isn't new, the world has always been a place filled with sadness and wrong. I feel in a way I'm making these goals for good things to counteract the moments where I will feel defeated and awful. I will look for moments of joy to carry me through.

Writing
  1. Have a new novel to pitch at conferences.
  2. Attend a new conference or writing event.
  3. Revise the iPod story.
  4. Finish Stalkers.
  5. Submit monthly to agents.
  6. Submit monthly for work for hire.
I think last year's goals were things I wanted to achieve, but they were things I couldn't get done on my own. These goals I can do and hopefully when I do them, they will help me achieve things like additional publications and securing an agent or editor.

Business
  1. Continue editing manuscripts
  2. Secure ghost writing contracts.
I do need to maintain a business income to pay for conference fees.

Reading
  1. Continue reading all the Newbery award books.
The goal of reading the Newbery books is to really see what captures readers' interests.

Fitness
  1. Run CUCB.
  2. Run Pgh Marathon Relay.
  3. Try some new races.
Keeping it simple this year and letting my fitness goals develop as the year progresses.

Community Service
  1. Continue to work for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense.
  2. Do a gleaning activity for GPCFB.
  3. Support efforts to increase equality in my community.
These are the same goals from last year, but they are important to me. I really want to do some gleaning this year.

I also want to work on approaching the world with compassion, and to learn about ways in which I unconsciously and consciously allow inequalities to exist in my community.

In addition to these goals, I also want to start waking up earlier in preparation for my oldest switching to the middle school schedule. Because even as I look at the big picture, there are small daily things on my mind.

What's on your list for 2017?
