This past weekend, my oldest and I made our first trip to the Columbus Zoo. I've been wanting to go for awhile, but thanks to pandemic life, we had time. Sort of. We only had about 90 minutes to see a small section of the zoo. The highlight for me was meeting Stubby the manatee and the two manatees she is fostering, Scampi and Squirrel.
Stubby is the big one. These photos don't do her justice. She's REALLY BIG.
Squirrel likes to ride her back. Scampi, who loves barrel rolls, is peeking in at the bottom right in the top photo. They are the 32nd and 33rd babies that Stubby has fostered. It's incredible. You can read more in this news article.
I loved seeing manatees in the wild in 2004. I wish manatees were safe in their home waters. But I'm so grateful to Stubby for loving and helping so many baby manatees.
